        As a part of the听草榴社区 Community, we know you work hard to keep fit. But did you know there鈥檚 a lot you can do to help keep your breasts healthy, too? Read the tips and important new information that can empower you to help protect yourself from breast cancer. And find out how could make a lifesaving difference.听 听

        Stuff you may already know 鈥

        • Avoid or minimize alcohol intake. An analysis of data from 53 studies found that for each alcoholic drink consumed per day, the relative risk of breast cancer increased by about 7%. And women who had two to three alcoholic drinks per day had a 20% higher risk. That鈥檚 significant.听
        • Exercise is more important than ever. We know our members are probably way ahead on this one. Still, it鈥檚 good to know that as few as 1.25 to 2.5 hours per week of brisk exercise reduces a woman鈥檚 breast cancer risk by 18%. The American Cancer society recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week.听
        • Bodyweight matters. Women who are overweight or obese after menopause have a 30% to 60% higher breast cancer risk 鈥 another great reason to keep in shape.

        Stuff you probably don鈥檛 know 鈥

        • A heart attack can be a risk factor. A study from New York University tells us that patients who survived a heart attack may be more likely to die from cancer later on. Study authors say heart attacks cause changes to immune cells that make them less able to attack cancer cells, potentially allowing tumors to grow more quickly. So, vigilance is especially important for women who鈥檝e had a heart attack.听
        • Tattoos can complicate screenings. Did you know pigment can migrate to lymph nodes? That can trigger a false alarm on a mammogram.听
        • 85% of breast cancers occur in women without a family history. Having a relative with breast cancer may put you at a higher risk. So be sure to share this information with your healthcare provider. But everyone needs to be aware of the risk because most cases occur in people with no family history.听

        Why is all this so important to you?

        On average, every two minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. One in eight US women will develop breast cancer within their lifetime. Unfortunately, nearly half of women miss their recommended annual screening mammogram.听

        And, while one in every 196 women below the age of 40 is diagnosed with breast cancer every year, screening mammograms aren鈥檛 even available to them! What makes that even worse is that younger women are at higher risk for an advanced diagnosis, recurrence after treatment, and spreading beyond the breasts.听

        What is PHYS ED?

        Physical Education or PHYS ED will be a holistic opportunity for our members internationally. Using a scholastic structure, each "semester" will contain a syllabus featuring all the classes members can take to complete a course, which can be used as a checklist. This syllabus will consist of various subjects, or categories. Of these categories, a participant will complete a certain amount to earn 鈥渃redit鈥 (i.e. 5 out of the 10 classes listed).

        What can I expect to learn?

        Each semester will cover a wide range of topics including movement improvement, overall health,听my听learn &burnprogram听and听extracredit!

        When is the fall 2023 semester?

        The first semester will start September 18, 2023 and听lasts 14 weeks.听

        We are asking you to 鈥Pink Up the Pace鈥 each week by committing to 150 minutes of exercise. Whether you are up for a one (150 minutes), two (300 minutes), three (450 minutes) or four (600 minutes) week challenge, we want to encourage you to Pink Up YOUR Pace during October.

        For each week you complete, you will earn an exclusive badge to share your accomplishment with friends, family and other members.

        Week 1 complete 鈥 Bronze level
        Week 2 complete 鈥 Silver level
        Week 3 complete 鈥 Gold level
        Week 4 complete 鈥 Diamond level

        Sign up now and create your own personal fundraising page and aim to raise $1 for each minute you complete.         Why 150 minutes?听

        Many studies have shown that moderate to vigorous physical activity is linked with lower breast cancer risk, so it鈥檚 important to get regular physical activity. The American Cancer Society recommends that adults get at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous intensity activity each week (or a combination of these), preferably spread throughout the week. Getting to or exceeding the upper limit of 300 minutes is ideal.

        What exercises count?

        ANY! Choose your favorite activity to reach your goals: running, biking, rowing, yoga, paddle boarding, pickleball 鈥 the options are endless!听 You can use Connected equipment or just go outside. All you need to do is mix and match those minutes until you hit 150 for the week.

        In need of some inspiration? Check out the Pink Up the Pace challenge icon on the 草榴社区 Fit app.听 We have 600 minutes worth of content for each of our pieces of equipment and Fitpass to help you hit your goal.

        How听do I log听my minutes?

        A survey will be sent to your email from our research partner AdventHealth at the end of each week where you can log your challenge minutes that you manually recorded (or can find in the 草榴社区 app) to claim your badge AND be entered for tons of prizes.听 If you miss a week, don鈥檛 fret!听 Your page will still be active and you can jump back in the following week.

        I'm not an 草榴社区 member, can I still participate?听

        Yes!听Participants of Pink Up the Pace are being offered a complimentary 30-day FitPass trial by 草榴社区, granting access to a vast array of classes that can help boost your workout regimen and inspire new experiences.         Starting July 1 for 23 days and 21 stages, our instructors will lead classes that are inspired by the terrain of the Tour de France 2023. Members will learn facts about the Tour de France, receive real-time race updates, and hear commentary about the different regions in France 鈥 from the hills of Brittany, the steep climbs of Mont Ventoux, and a final sprint to the Champs-脡lys茅es.

        Whether you are passionate about this iconic cycling event, simply curious about the sport, or just looking for a new way to challenge yourself, these classes are the perfect complement to your fitness routine.

        Learn about our different class types to find the right workout for your routine!

        All Out Rides
        All Out Rides are great benchmark classes where you鈥檒l practice and develop skills that directly translate to greater output on the leaderboard, and you can revisit these classes to see how you improve over time. They are an all-out effort, so it鈥檚 a good idea to take a Warm Up Rides class before joining.

        Beginner Rides
        Beginner Rides are a great way to learn the basics and sample all the types of rides we offer. You鈥檒l get to know our instructors and find the classes that inspire, challenge, and energize you.

        Bike Bootcamp
        In Bike Bootcamp classes, your workout begins with a ride and ends with floor exercises. These classes are best taken while wearing regular sneakers and utilizing the toe cages on your pedals.

        Cadence Rides
        Cadence Rides veer away from 鈥渞ules of the road riding,鈥 providing interval training for the music-driven athlete. Rhythm riding combined with full-body strengthening works all muscle groups 鈥 glutes, quads, core, and upper body.

        Cool Down Rides
        This short cool down class allows your heart rate to slow down and recover.

        Endurance Rides
        Endurance Rides incorporate the variables of time and tempo across milder terrains, helping you establish a solid foundation and build baseline fitness levels.听

        Fusion Rides
        Fusion Rides challenge physical and mental agility and are a medley workout of our favorite drills 鈥 strength, power, and speed.

        Hill Rides
        Hill Rides are one of the more challenging ride classes we offer. These workouts will help build strength and cardiovascular endurance while working the largest muscle groups. The classes combine steep climbs, moderate grade climbs, and rolling hills with bursts of speed.

        HRZ (Heart Rate Zone) Rides
        Push your way through the five heart rate zones in this science-based ride. Each class focuses on a different zone to improve your anaerobic and aerobic capacity.听

        Low Impact Rides
        Low Impact Rides allow you to build a solid foundation by focusing on form, technique, and execution. With a combination of milder terrains and moderate-intensity drills, these workouts build baseline fitness levels and promote active recovery.

        Power Rides
        Power Rides get their name from the power generated by combined resistance and leg speed, also known as cadence. These interval rides switch up speed, load, and time to increase strength and stamina and spike post-workout metabolic activity.听

        Scenic Rides
        Scenic Rides are self-guided workout sessions during which your screen displays a moving video of biking in a specific location, instead of an instructor leading the class.

        Speed Rides
        Pedal through perceived limits as you generate and sustain speed on flat roads and mild climbs at higher cadences. Speed Rides allow you to push your boundaries, improving anaerobic threshold and overall aerobic capacity.

        Tabata Rides
        Tabata Rides are a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) using short bursts of all-out effort, followed by brief recoveries to promote aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. Effort and rest are a 2:1 ratio, respectively.

        Warm Up Rides
        Get your body ready to ride in this quick warm up class.

        ZumbaParty Ride
        ZumbaParty Ride is an 草榴社区-exclusive bike class where connected cycling meets high-energy Zumba听music and choreography.

        Cool Down Runs
        Let your heart rate slow down and recover during this quick cool down run.

        Endurance Hills Runs
        During Endurance Hills Runs you鈥檒l be running in longer intervals followed by recoveries to challenge your aerobic system. You will use incline to build strength and speed.

        Endurance Runs
        Endurance Runs have you running in longer intervals followed by recoveries. You will use your aerobic system to build stamina and improve your longer-running goals.

        Hill Sprints
        The focus of Hill Sprints is short bursts of high-intensity speeds followed by low-intensity recovery time on an incline. Designed to build strength and speed, these workouts are a sure way to leave you feeling invigorated and empowered.

        Interval Runs
        Interval Runs are broken into 60-second to 3-minute intervals of intermediate-intensity (sprints or running) followed by active recoveries (jog or walking). You will use your aerobic and anaerobic systems to build both power and endurance.

        Pace Runs
        Pace Runs are designed to have you steadily building your endurance by holding a set pace.

        Race Runs
        Race Runs allow you to go the distance and run a race with us by refining your pace to achieve your indoor and outdoor running goals.

        Rhythm Runs
        Rhythm runs are fun total body music-based classes that get your heart rate up while you run to the beat of the music at a steady, easy pace.

        Running Basics
        Learn how to perfect your arm drive, stride length, foot strike, and body position to prevent injuries and become a more efficient runner

        Scenic Runs

        Sprint Runs

        Stride Bootcamp Core is a core-focused, high-impact class that has you on your treadmill for half the workout and strength training the other half. This core workout will help increase your metabolism and keep you energized all day long.

        Stride Bootcamp Glutes and Thighs
        This workout is a high-impact glutes- and thighs-focused class half on your treadmill and half strength training. Bootcamp Glutes and Thighs is a great way to kick your metabolism into gear, and keep you ready to go, all day long.

        Stride Bootcamp Total Body

        Beginner Rows are great introduction classes and a terrific place to start for anyone new to the sport of rowing.

        Cool Down Rows
        Let your heart rate slow down and recover in this short cool down class.

        Endurance Rows
        Endurance Rows combine low intensity with a long, steady rowing experience, helping to build aerobic stamina, improve technique, and increase muscle oxidation.听

        Fusion Rows
        Blended class formats with no floor exercises, Fusion Rows are a medley of our favorite drills 鈥 strength, power, and sprints 鈥 to train various metabolic pathways and increase agility.

        Low Impact Rows
        Low Impact Rows focus on form, technique, and execution. You鈥檒l work through a combination of milder resistance and moderate-intensity drills to help build baseline fitness levels and promote active recovery.
